Until the maintainer (Rod Smith) makes a version 1.0 declaring the software stable, you cannot expect distros to use the software as their official bootloader.
I think there are also grub for other architectures (e.g. That point makes it way easier to help newbies, at least until everybody has transitionned to EFI. And it works both for Legacy/BIOS and EFI computers. Grub has been there for a long time, is known to be stable and reliable (mostly). I can see the following reasons for this (maybe I missed others) : but, cleaning the menu from duplicating boot files are as easy as pressing delete buttons.
However, it's only recognize efi boots and also it will automatically include kernel which make the os menu duplicate. There are some distros (Porteus if I remember correctly) that do, but it has not yet been adopted by "mainstream" distros (say ubuntu and derivatives, debian, fedora.). It has a theme support and easy to configure with text-based. To get more users, it would need to be adopted as the default bootloader by some distros. In fact most people who discover it adopt it.
